Areas of expertise
- Aerosol-radiation interactions
- Aerosol impacts on climate
- Parameterization
- Numerical modelling
- Model evaluation
Current Activites
Anthony is a scientist working on the development of aerosols and aerosol-radiation interactions in the Met Office models across weather and climate scales. Anthony develops the United Kingdom Chemistry and Aerosol model (UKCA) and its radiation submodule RADAER.
The current focus of Anthony’s work is adding ammonium nitrate and dust aerosol to the UKCA model for eventual use in air quality forecasts and centennial climate simulations. Ammonium nitrate in particular has been identified as a key missing component in UKCA.
Anthony uses the climate model to perform idealised experiments of climate trajectories, in particular, with solar geoengineering applied to counterbalance global warming. This work follows from Anthony’s PhD at the University of Exeter.
Career background
Anthony became a member of Atmospheric Processes and Parametrizations in May 2019. Prior to this Anthony completed his PhD in climate impacts of solar geoengineering at the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences (CEMPS) at the University of Exeter in 2017. Anthony then went on to work as a postdoc on the National Environmental Research Council (NERC) funded project CLoud-Aerosol-Radiation Interactions and Forcing (CLARIFY-2016) at the University of Exeter from 2017 to 2019.
