Current activities
Joe is working with the latest observed datasets and climate model simulations to deliver world-leading climate science to customers across multiple sectors. Joe has extensive expertise in combining state-of-the-art climate datasets, including UKCP18, with novel techniques to quantify changes in impactful weather events, working closely with organisations to characterise and quantify these risks in the present-day and future climates. Joe also works closely with organisations to map their climate risks and to suggest measures to enable them to prepare and adapt for the future.
Career background
Joe has been an Industry Consultancy Manager at the Met Office since April 2021, having joined the organisation in June 2019.
Prior to this, Joe spent 8 years at the University of Exeter, completing a PhD on large scale hydrological change, before working as a Research Fellow on several projects. During this time, Joe worked with world-leading climate scientists, publishing peer-reviewed papers on topics including drivers of seasonal weather over Europe; constraining hydrological projections; and simple models for understanding hydrological change.
Between 2009 and 2011, Joe worked as an Operational and Broadcast Meteorologist in the private sector, working closely with customers to ensure that they were making decisions informed by the latest short-to medium-range weather forecasts. This followed on from a BSc in Geophysical Sciences at the University of East Anglia between 2005 and 2009.
