The Met Office have issued rain and wind warnings as an area of low pressure pushed a spell of wet and windy weather across the UK.
Strong winds
A spell of very strong southerly or southwesterly winds will affect some western coastal areas, includng including western Wales, northern England and southwest Scotland, as well as the east coast of Northern Ireland, during Wednesday, before spreading inland during the afternoon and affecting eastern Scotland later. Yellow warnings for wind are in place.
Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: “Much of the UK can expect a spell of strong southerly winds on Wednesday, but the warning area highlights where gusts of up to 65mph will be and therefore where there are likely to be some travel delays.”

Heavy rain
Rail will accompany the strong winds on Wednesday, affecting Northern Ireland and Scotland first thing but then pushing eastwards to the rest of the UK by the end of the day. Where this rain falls on top of already wet ground there may be some localised flooding and disruption and yellow rain warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland and southwestern Scotland
Neil Added: “30 to 40mm of rain is expected to fall in some areas, and where it falls over ground already wet from recent rainfall as well as fallen leaves there may be spray and flooding on the roads as well as travel delays”
