Parliament and the Met Office
We provide objective and impartial information to parliamentarians and their offices, across the UK and within the European Union.
The Met Office is accountable to the Secretary of State for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) with day-to-day Ministerial oversight delegated to the Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation. They, in turn, represent our interests at Westminster and delegate authority to us to deal with enquiries from Members of Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Welsh Government.
We provide objective and impartial information to parliamentarians and their offices, on request, and present evidence to a wide range of parliamentary committees, as required. We also submit evidence to consultations on issues of corporate interest and scientific expertise and provide authoritative scientific advice to the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) and Parliamentary Libraries.
If you are a Parliamentarian, or are involved in Parliamentary Business, and have a request for the Met Office you can contact us using the email address [email protected].
