Cullercoats

A ridge of high pressure will stretch over most areas to southwest of the British Isles throughout much of the period, at times stretching across southern areas of the North Sea. Low 978 over Southeast Iceland by late on Thursday, moving north on Friday but returning over the area on Saturday, 985, moving over the Norwegian Sea by midday on Sunday, 986. Risk of gales by late on Thursday in Viking, North Utsire and Forties, moderating by early on Friday but returning for a time late on Friday and early on Saturday for Viking. Gales expected by early on Friday in Fair Isle, moderating for at time early on Saturday and moderating by midday on Sunday. Strong winds expected by late on Thursday in all areas, moderating from midday on Friday south of 56 North

Niton

A ridge of high pressure will stretch over most areas to southwest of the British Isles throughout much of the period, at times stretching across southern areas of the North Sea. Low 978 over Southeast Iceland by late on Thursday, moving north on Friday but returning over the area on Saturday, 985, moving over the Norwegian Sea by midday on Sunday, 986. Strong winds expected by late on Thursday in all areas, moderating from early on Friday across English Channel areas and becoming occasional in all other areas

Portpatrick

A ridge of high pressure will stretch over most areas to southwest of the British Isles throughout much of the period, at times stretching across southern areas of the North Sea. Low 978 over Southeast Iceland by late on Thursday, moving north on Friday but returning over the area on Saturday, 985, moving over the Norwegian Sea by midday on Sunday, 986. Gales will spread in from the west from late on Thursday for Rockall, Malin, Hebrides, Fair Isle, Faeroes and Southeast Iceland, moderating by late on Friday, but returning for a period on Saturday and early Sunday for Hebrides, Bailey, Fair Isle and Faeroes. Strong winds expected throughout most of the period in all areas

The extended outlooks are issued once a day, at 2300 GMT and cover the next 3 to 5 days.

For the extended outlooks the waters surrounding the British Isles are divided into three areas: Cullercoats, Portpatrick and Niton. These three areas reflect the coverage areas of the UK's Navtex transmitters, which overlap in some areas.

The extended outlook forecast contains details of the likelihood of gales or storms, a general synopsis and a general forecast for the area of coverage of each Navtex transmitter.
