Headline:

Early rain clearing the south. Brightest in the north.

Today:

Perhaps on the cloudy side at times in the south with a little early rain, but soon becoming dry generally with cloud breaking to leave a fine day, especially in the north. Temperatures near normal, with light winds throughout. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Staying fine overnight, with temperatures dipping in lasting clear spells to perhaps allow a slight frost in rural areas by dawn. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Tuesday:

Fine in parts of the north to start, but overall a rather cloudy day with the odd spot of rain possible in places later. Winds strengthening. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Wet and windy on Wednesday, but warmer. Drier but cooler conditions should then spread from the west on Thursday. Friday perhaps starting fine, but becoming wet and windy again later.

The unsettled spell of weather, which is expected to develop during this coming week, will continue into next weekend and beyond. All regions are likely to have some rain at times, which could be heavy. However, most of the rain, showers and strong winds are likely to be in the northwest with southeastern areas more often dry and bright. Temperatures will be above average and probably feeling warm in the brighter spells in southern areas. Later in October, there is a chance of more settled conditions developing, particularly in southern and eastern areas but with temperatures falling closer to average and some overnight frost and fog. Given the time of year, fog could be slow to clear.

Potentially some wet and windy weather at first, especially in the northwest, but a trend towards more settled conditions is most favoured for late October as high pressure becomes increasingly dominant. This would bring the potential for frost and fog at night, and possibly large variations between daytime and overnight temperatures. Into early November, high pressure may become more centred to the northwest of the UK, resulting in a gradual trend towards more unsettled conditions, particularly across southern regions.
