Wind and rain marking a change in the UK weather
Warnings have been issued as the weather across the UK becomes increasingly mild but wet and windy.
Read moreRain, heavy at times, clearing eastwards, and replaced by sunny spells and scattered showers. Windy with coastal gales, especially in the northwest with a risk of severe gales. Milder than of late, although tempered somewhat by the windy conditions.
Any rain becoming confined to southeast England, with further heavy showers and strong winds in the northwest. Dry elsewhere with clear spells, and remaining frost free.
A bright start for many with sunny spells and showers, mainly in the north and west. Cloudier in the southeast to start with rain slowly clearing eastwards.
Wet and windy on Sunday with gales for many. Drier on Monday and Tuesday with sunny spells and showers, these locally heavy and slow to clear at times. Mild.
Changeable weather is expected across the UK during this period with Atlantic weather systems spreading in from the west at times. These systems will bring periods of wet and windy weather, with a risk of heavy rain and gales at times. The heaviest rainfall and strongest winds are most likely to affect western and northwestern regions of the UK, with rainfall totals typically lower and winds lighter in the southeast. Between weather systems, some drier and brighter interludes are likely to develop with lighter winds, spells of sunshine and perhaps a few showers. Temperatures are likely to be above average overall, although some short-lived colder spells are possible at times, particularly in the north of the UK.
Much of this period looks like being mainly unsettled, with Atlantic frontal systems moving east across the UK. These will bring spells of mild, wet and windy weather at times, interspersed with colder, brighter but probably showery conditions, with a risk of snow over higher ground in the north. However, it may become a little drier and more settled towards the south or southeast after mid-month, with the wettest and windiest weather possibly becoming more confined towards the northwest. Temperatures are likely to be a little above average overall, although overnight frost is possible at times where skies are clear and winds light enough.
