Exploring extreme events around the world and the impacts they have.
Exploring extreme weather events
In this activity, young people will learn about extreme weather events through Met Office films, different case studies of extreme weather and a set of weather profile cards. They will be given a set of extreme weather profile cards which will help them research a real example of extreme weather event.
Creating extreme weather guidance
In this activity, young people will learn about what makes weather events ‘extreme’ and reflect on the impacts they can have on the local community. In groups, young people will come up with a guide to help others in the local area prepare for extreme weather events.
P4C activities
The Philosophy for Children (P4C) inspired activities present young people with a stimulus – or ‘curiosity catalyst’ in the form of a short video, an image, an article and/or a drawing. These activities will prompt your group to think of 'big questions' about weather and climate and develop their critical and independent thinking, while nurturing open-mindedness, questioning and curiosity.
