Headline:

Mainly dry and bright. Cloudy and windy over the Hebrides.

Today:

A mainly dry and bright day and it will feel milder than of late, especially in the sunshine. Cloudier across the Hebrides with the odd spot of rain and strong southerly winds. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Mainly dry with clear spells and staying mild overnight. Outbreaks of rain will affect the Hebrides at times with strong southeasterly winds. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Wednesday:

Rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain moving northwards, perhaps turning heavy and thundery. Some drier and brighter spells, especially in the Inverness area. Feeling very mild, even quite warm. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Rain clearing overnight then sunny spells and scattered showers on Thursday. Changeable and unsettled for Friday and weekend with bands of rain moving east and strong winds at times.

There is potential for a deep area of low pressure to pass over or close to the west/northwest of the UK early in this period, potentially bringing a spell of very strong winds and heavy rain, especially to parts of the north and west. Through next week, an oscillation between occasional spells of rain, most frequent in the northwest, with longer drier interludes in-between, is likely. It may be rather windy at times too, again especially in northern and western areas. Towards late October there are signs that, whilst northwestern areas may continue to see some rain at times, high pressure may become increasingly influential, potentially bringing more widely settled and drier conditions, with an increasing chance of overnight frost and fog.

High pressure is likely to steadily become more influential around the turn of the month. This means plenty of dry weather to be had, but with the chance of overnight frost and fog becoming rather more widespread than in the days preceding this period. Some large fluctuations between daytime and nighttime temperatures are possible, with relatively mild days, where fog doesn't linger, and cold frosty nights. Towards mid-November, the area of high pressure may track towards the northwest, allowing a gradual trend towards colder and perhaps more unsettled conditions.
